OPTION 2

Suggested itinerary adapted for families with children (approx. 1 to 7 years old) for 1 to 10 days.

 

Morning (cold) → prioritizes indoor spaces

Afternoon (sun) → prioritizes outdoor areas

 

 

1 day – Chapultepec and History

  • National Museum of Anthropology (indoor) – Large and accessible space with giant and colorful pre-Hispanic pieces; choose only 2-3 rooms to maintain interest.

  • Chapultepec Forest – 1st Section (outdoor) – Tree-lined park with a lake, shady areas and a safe playground.

  • Chapultepec Castle (indoor and outdoor) – Historic castle with panoramic views; easy access by small train.

3 days – Chapultepec, Coyoacán and Center
Day 1: Same as 1-day itinerary.


Day 2 – Coyoacán (south zone):

  • Frida Kahlo Museum (Casa Azul) (indoor and garden) – Colorful house full of visual elements that attract children's attention.

  • National Museum of Popular Cultures (indoor) – Interactive exhibitions on Mexican popular culture.

  • Centenary Park (outdoor) – Tree-lined square with a playground.

 

Day 3 – Historic Center:

  • Palace of Fine Arts (indoor) – Iconic building with giant and very colorful murals.

  • Museum of Popular Art (indoor) – Alebrijes, masks and traditional toys.

  • Alameda Central (outdoor) – Historic park with fountains and space to run.

5 days – Extra Chapultepec and UNAM
Includes the previous 3 days.

 

Day 4 – Chapultepec:

  • Papalote Children's Museum (indoor) – Interactive museum for children, with experiences for different ages.

  • Chapultepec Botanical Garden (outdoor) – Gardens and short trails to explore.

 

Day 5 – UNAM:

  • National Museum of Natural History (indoor) – Dinosaurs, fossils and stuffed animals.

  • Sculptural Space (outdoor) – Open-air artwork with wide paths.

7 days – Xochimilco and Polanco
Includes the previous 5 days.

Day 6 – Xochimilco and surroundings:

  • Xochimilco – short trajinera ride (outdoor) – Colorful boat ride on the canals (with children's life jackets).

  • Dolores Olmedo Museum (indoor and garden) – Works by Frida and Diego, gardens with peacocks.

 

Day 7 – Polanco:

  • Bicentennial Park (outdoor) – Thematic gardens and playgrounds.

  • Soumaya Museum (indoor) – Large sculptures and works that are visually striking.

 

 


10 days – Cultural day trips
Includes the previous 7 days.

Day 8 – Teotihuacán:

  • Walk around the base of the pyramids (outdoor) – Flat walk around the pyramids.

  • Teotihuacan Murals Museum (indoor) – Colorful and detailed murals.

 

Day 9 – Tepoztlán:

  • Fair and central square (outdoor) – Handicrafts, colors and sounds of a typical village.

 

Day 10 – Nearby alternatives:

  • Cuernavaca – Cathedral gardens and Robert Brady Museum (indoor and outdoor) – Pleasant gardens and colorful art.
    OR

  • Toluca – Cosmovitral Botanical Garden (indoor) – Indoor garden with impressive stained glass windows.
