Suggested itinerary for those with reduced mobility (less displacement, accessible attractions)

 

1 day – Chapultepec and Historic Center

  • National Museum of Anthropology (indoor – effort level: low)

    • Largest collection of pre-Hispanic art in Latin America, with imposing pieces and spacious rooms.

    • Accessibility: ramps, elevators, resting chairs in several rooms.

  • Chapultepec Castle (indoor/outdoor – low)

    • Former imperial residence, well-kept gardens and panoramic views.

    • Accessibility: ascent via electric train, internal elevator; gardens with flat stone paths.

  • Historic Center – Zócalo and Metropolitan Cathedral (outdoor/indoor – low)

    • Historic square and the largest cathedral in Latin America, with rich interiors.

    • Accessibility: flat area; cathedral with ramps and wide corridors.

3 days – Chapultepec, Coyoacán and in-depth Historic Center
Day 1: Same as 1-day itinerary, less Historic Center.
 

Day 2 – Coyoacán (south zone, nearby attractions)

  • Frida Kahlo Museum (Casa Azul) (indoor/garden – low)

    • Colorful house with Frida and Diego's personal objects; flowery gardens and vibrant spaces.

    • Accessibility: access ramps, wide corridors.

  • National Museum of Popular Cultures (indoor – low)

    • Temporary exhibitions on Mexican traditions and popular art.

    • Accessibility: flat and accessible floor.

  • Plaza Hidalgo (outdoor – low)

    • Tree-lined central square, ideal for a short break.

    • Accessibility: flat ground, benches.

 

Day 3 – Historic Center (all nearby and flat)

  • Palace of Fine Arts (indoor – low)

    • Impressive architecture, murals by Diego Rivera and other artists.

    • Accessibility: ramp entrance, elevators.

  • Diego Rivera Mural Museum (indoor – low)

    • A large historical mural, ideal for a quick visit.

    • Accessibility: flat and adapted access.

  • Alameda Central (outdoor – low)

    • Historic park with gardens and benches for resting.

    • Accessibility: paved paths.

 

5 days – Cultural expansion with little physical effort
Includes the previous 3 days.

 

Day 4 – Chapultepec (nearby museums)

  • Museum of Modern Art (indoor – low)

    • Works by great Mexican artists of the 20th century.

    • Accessibility: ramps and elevators.

  • Tamayo Museum (indoor – low)

    • Contemporary art in a modern and accessible building.

    • Accessibility: fully adapted.

 

Day 5 – Center and surroundings

  • MUNAL – National Museum of Art (indoor – low)

    • Mexican paintings and sculptures from the 16th to 20th centuries.

    • Accessibility: elevator and spacious areas.

  • Museum of Popular Art (indoor – low)

    • Alebrijes, masks, vibrant handicrafts.

    • Accessibility: totally flat.

  • Former College of San Ildefonso (indoor – low)

    • Historical murals and temporary exhibitions.

    • Accessibility: ramp entrance.

 


7 days – South zones and Polanco
Includes the previous 5 days.

 

Day 6 – Xochimilco

  • Short trajinera ride (outdoor – low)

    • Colorful boat ride on the historic canals.

    • Accessibility: assisted boarding, seated ride.

  • Dolores Olmedo Museum (indoor/garden – low)

    • Works by Frida and Diego, gardens with peacocks.

    • Accessibility: ramps and flat ground.

 

Day 7 – Polanco

  • Soumaya Museum (indoor – low)

    • Varied collection and iconic architecture.

    • Accessibility: elevators and benches on each floor.

  • Jumex Museum (indoor – low)

    • International contemporary art.

    • Accessibility: fully adapted.

 

10 days – Adapted day trips
Includes the previous 7 days.

 

Day 8 – Teotihuacán (adapted tour)

  • Panoramic car or tourist van ride, with stops at viewpoints and museum visit.

  • Accessibility: avoid climbs, focus on flat areas.

 

Day 9 – Tepoztlán

  • Fair and central square with handicrafts and colonial architecture.

  • Accessibility: uneven sidewalks in some places, but the central area is flat.

 

Day 10 – Nearby alternatives​

  • Cuernavaca: Cathedral and Robert Brady Museum (flat access).

  • Toluca: Cosmovitral Botanical Garden (indoor and flat).
